Day 1 - Martyrs Church and Petra
The trip to Jordan took a good 24 hours. We landed in Amman Saturday evening, checked into our hotel, and grabbed a good night's sleep.
On Sunday morning we celebrated Mass at the Martyrs Church in the town of Marj Alhamam, just outside Amman. We were warmly welcomed by the parishioners, and we celebrated Mass alternating between English and Arabic. We then traveled to Petra, also known as the "Rose City." This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a three-hour drive south-southwest of Amman. It was named one of the New 7 Wonders of the World in 2007, and was also chosen by the Smithsonian Magazine as one of the "28 Places to See Before You Die". When you see it you understand why. |
