Day Seven - Back to Reykjavik, on to Keflavik for a
Lava Beach ATV Tour

As much as we enjoyed our stay on the northern coast, on Friday morning it was time to fly back from Akureyri back to Reykjavik. Fortunately, we had one more activity left on our to-do list: ride ATVs out through the lava formations along the coast. It took us about an hour to get from Reykjavik to Keflavik, where we would take our tour and where the international airport is located. We rode two-person machines: Jen and Jim on one, Kate and Julia on the other. It was amazing to see how the lava formations transformed the beach area and surroundings to an almost-alien landscape.
After the tour we spent our last night in a little hotel near the airport, and we enjoyed one final meal full of wonderful Icelandic seafood. It was a perfect ending to a wonderful week before we ventured back home. Great idea choosing Iceland, Julia and Jen! |
