We spent our final morning together touring the Acropolis, the ancient fortification overlooking Athens. The highlight of the complex is the Parthenon, the ancient temple located there. If your goal was to stake claim to Athens then you took the Acropolis. The meaning and use of the Parthenon temple changed as the rule of the city changed hands. We spent the afternoon as tourists walking the city. We ate one last meal as a group and got to bid farewell to Eleni, our wonderful guide throughout our time on land in Greece. The evening ended as it began, with a beautiful view of the Parthenon. |
