Day 7 - Old City of Jerusalem, Via Dolorosa, Mount of Olives, Notre Dame
We left our hotel early on Saturday morning so that we could walk the Via Dolorosa--the way of the cross--in the Old City of Jerusalem before the shops open. The Via Dolorosa concludes at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which houses both the site of the Crucifixion, as well as the Lord's Tomb.
The highlight of the day was unplanned. When our guide inquired as to the location of the chapel we would use for our daily Mass in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, we were informed that we would be able to say Mass in the Lord's Tomb itself. This was one of the most moving parts of the trip for me. The day included many other wonderful sites, including a visit to the Mount of Olives with its great view of Jerusalem, and concluding with a beautiful wine and cheese tasting on the rooftop of the Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center. |
