Day 6 - Florence
October 15th, 2017
Our entire day was spent traveling to and enjoying Florence, the "Living museum of the Italian Renaissance." We celebrated Mass at the Basilica of Santa Croce, the principle Franciscan church of Florence and burial place of Michelangelo, Dante, Galileo and Machiavelli. After touring a leather and jewelry shop, we made our way to Academia Gallery, home to Michelangelo's David statue. We then walked to the Piazza del Duomo to see the enormous S. Maria del Fiore Cathedral, Giotto's Campanile and the bronze "Gates of Paradise" doors of the Baptistry. We spent the afternoon walking through the beautiful city and had the good fortune to stop at a scenic overlook of Florence as we left town, taking in the beautiful view and the site of one of the many reproductions of the David statue you can see in Florence. |
