Our Boat - The Viking Vilhjalm
I've pulled together a few photos of the boat, The Viking Vilhjalm, that you might have already seen. The idea of sailing on an ocean cruise ship with 3,000 other passengers never appealed to me, but I thought that a river cruise on a longship might be more my style. It was. The boat was put in service in 2015. It holds 190 passengers and a crew of 49 on 4 decks. You immediately appreciate the low staff-to-patron ratio; the service was excellent.
You will note that I don't have many photos of the boat itself. As the name implies, the boat is L-O-N-G! It was hard to capture it in a way that put its size into perspective. I have included a few shots of our room, one of the two Explorer Suites located on the aft end of the boat. We treated ourselves to this experience and I will have a hard time not staying in an Explorer Suite if I sail Viking again. We really enjoyed having a separate bedroom, living room and private balcony off the back of the boat!
You will also note photos where it appears that there are two or three longships tethered side-by-side at shore. This is very common and often surprising when you wake up to see a boat out your window that was not there when you went to sleep! The captains of these boats earn their keep.
