Day 5 - Mount Tabor, Jericho, Qumran
On this day we left Tiberius and made our way towards Jerusalem, where we would be for the rest of our pilgrimage. Our first stop was at the top of Mount Tabor where we celebrated Mass at the Church of the Transfiguration. It was a beautiful place.
We continued through Samaria to the actual site of Jacob's Well, which is hewn out of solid rock and over 100 feet deep. The ancients called this "living water" because the well is fed by flowing water, and it is where Jesus met the Samaritan woman. We stopped in Jericho and visited the excavation of the oldest city in the world, then on to Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. We took the opportunity to go into the Dead Sea and float, but all on the pilgrimage agreed it would be a "no photos" affair! We arrived in Jerusalem in the late afternoon and proceeded to the King David Hotel, which provided excellent refuge for the rest of our trip. |
