Phillipi, Kavala

We started the day running into our private tour guide from the day before! He was happy to pose with the women in our group. Our first stop was at Phillipi, where Paul preached his first evangelical sermon and baptized the first Christians on European soil. We stopped to say Mass at the baptismal site where Lydia surrendered her life to Christ. We traveled on to tour the ancient ruins of the city. It includes a crypt dating from the Roman period that is thought to have served as a prison for Paul. The site also includes an acropolis, marketplace, basilica and theatre. We continued on to the port city of Kavala. Paul landed here with his disciples Timothy and Silas. We landed here for a late lunch. |
