Day 1 - Arrival in Rome

October 10th, 2017

We landed in Rome following an over-night flight and were met at the airport by Loredana, our outstanding guide for the trip.   We began our tour of Rome by bus and on foot. The sights included a quick stop near the Colosseum, our first walking tour of St. Peter's Square, a visit to the Trevi Fountain and Piazza di Spagna, dominated by the majestic stairways known as the "Spanish Steps." We went on to se the Pantheon, which dates back to 27 BC, and Piazza Navona, a busy public square that includes Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers.

After dining as a group we walked back to our hotel, allowing us to see the dome of St. Peter's Basilica lit at night, ending up at the Hotel Michelangelo. Located just a short walk from the Vatican, it would be our headquarters during our time in Rome.
